Elizabeth’s #depressionis

Elizabeth’s #depressionis

To me, depression can be living death. Some people have “overcome” and “beat” depression. Those of us who cannot make that claim can feel like failures, especially in the church, where “faith is the victory” and all that. But to me, depression is also a way I stay aware of my dependence of God… a constant reminder of His strength being made perfect in my weakness.

I’d like to thank Elizabeth, otherwise known as Guilty Chocoholic Mama, for sharing part of her experience with depression. I love how it captures the ugliness of the darkness, AND a beautiful blessing that can be found in it. Nothing is wasted.

  1. Yes, I think that those who have suffered from depression can say, along with Paul, “when I am weak, then I am strong.” Paul’s “thorn” also was given as a means of humbling and connecting Paul with his neediness for God. Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention with compassion and hope.

    • Thorns… Yes, we need to be humbled and always aware of our neediness for God. But it does hurt, doesn’t it?
Elizabeth captured so much in one paragraph, and I appreciate her sharing.
      Thank you for your comment.

  2. I appreciate reading your view of depression, Elizabeth.

That can encapsulate so many people in their fight and struggles with depression. I’ve always had a hard time with the church expecting victory in all issues and anything else SO many people suffer from that can hold us captive, because then there is a pressure so many face from the church to be healed and sinless and free of whatever it is Christ can free them from. What can happen is they then QUESTION their own faith. They feel ‘less than’ because they aren’t HEALED! Keep leaning and depending on the true judge and healer and voice in what it means to be victorious in HIM.

  3. Thank you again for this deep honor and opportunity, Melinda! May God bless you as you provide a platform for others to share their stories of struggle and triumph.
