Listen When He Speaks, John 11:40

John 11:40... Martha and Mary sent word to Jesus that their brother was dying. But Jesus waited days before traveling to Bethany to see him. He let His friend die. God's timing isn't always what we'd like, but He always has something BETTER in mind.

Martha and Mary sent word to Jesus that their brother, His friend, was dying. But Jesus waited days before traveling to Bethany to see him. He let Lazarus die. The women were distraught when He arrived. They did not know what Jesus knew. He was there to raise their brother from the dead, and His followers’ faith would be strengthened. Even so, He mourned with them…

God’s timing isn’t always what we hope. We must remember that He always has something better in mind. We can’t see the big picture, but He can, and we can trust Him. What is best can hurt, but God is not unmoved by our pain. He hurts with us, though He knows when we yield it to Him, He will bring good out of it.

Today’s Listen When He Speaks reading was John 11:1-44. The April list will be available tomorrow. If you’re not yet joined us to listen when God speaks,  you can sign up here.

1 Samuel 3: Speak, Lord…

Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening... 1 Samuel 3

Hannah had prayed for a son. She had promised God that she would dedicate the boy to God’s service. God gave Hannah a son; Hannah gave her son to God. Samuel was born during a time when God rarely spoke to the people. But Hannah’s faithfulness, followed by Samuel’s, changed that.

The LORD was with Samuel as he grew up, and He let none of his words fall to the ground (verse 19, NIV). All Israel recognized Samuel as God’s prophet, and God continued to speak to Samuel at Shiloh.

Today’s Listen When He Speaks reading is 1 Samuel 3.
