Listen When He Speaks, December 2017: God with Us

Listen When He Speaks, December 2017: God with Us

It’s incredible that we have a God willing to physically insert Himself into time, to not just take on a human body capable of pain but choose to suffer beyond our imagination on our behalf.

In December we celebrate God’s physical arrival on earth, as a baby in lowly circumstances in Bethlehem. Our Listen When He Speaks theme for this Christmas month is God with Us.

From Beginning…

God has always interacted with His people. It’s important to recognize that, and know that He interacts with us all the time. As believers in Christ, we have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us, empowering us to do God’s will with the same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead. In Old Testament times, God’s Spirit would come upon people for particular purposes, but He dwells not only with us, but inside us.

This month we’ll take a look at examples of God’s Presence with His people, from when He walked with Adam and Eve in the Garden, through David’s understanding of God’s nearness and protection when he trusted Him, to God residing in the Holy of Holies in the Temple. We’ll read the Christmas story of Jesus coming to earth, and look at some of His acts and teachings, His death and resurrection, and His promise to be with us as we fulfill His purpose in the world. Then we’ll look at the epistles to see examples of what life with Him in this age can look like. We’ll also get glimpses of what life with Him will look like after time ends.

…to End New Beginning that Never Ends

Long story short, we are not alone. We are never alone. In and through it all, God is there. In Christ, we have access to all the power we need to accomplish God’s will, and live out our purpose and identity.

There’s nothing about God’s involvement in our lives, both while Jesus walked the earth, spiritually today, and throughout history, that isn’t amazing.

Our suggested memory passage for December is Isaiah 9:6-7. You can memorize it in the translation of your choice.

Why do we memorize Scripture? The Importance of Memorizing Scripture

How could the Son of God choose to walk this earth in human form, and suffer for us? God has never been indifferent to His greatest, most loved creation. "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given..." Isaiah 9:6
